Colleton County School District has embarked on a Strategic Planning Process that will guide the work of the district until 2021.
Strategic planning is a procedure engaging a variety of stakeholders to identify realistic goals based on data, develop a plan of action for continuous improvement, and recommend appropriate allocation of resources and support.
Colleton County School District hosted a Strategic Plan Kick-Off meeting with invited participants to feature an overview of the process and to revise the district’s mission and vision statements. These statements are those that serve to guide the District and the action teams throughout our planning. The meeting was held on November 2, 2015, at Colleton County High School. Schools were asked to submit the name of their Teacher of the Year, a paraprofessional, a parent, and a community member to represent their school on one of the four Strategic Plan Action Teams. The district leadership team also identified other community members to invite them to serve on the action teams. In addition, all principals, curriculum facilitators and reading coaches are serving on the action teams, as well, for a total of 78 individuals.
The teams will utilize data from surveys of various stakeholder groups, student focus group feedback, and district/school data to identify accomplishments and challenges. The job of the individual teams will be to design strategies and action steps toward continuous improvement of the challenges identified. The work will be centered on the four goals of the district: student achievement, safety and security, communication and organizational effectiveness.
This is a very time-consuming process that will continue over the next several months. As part of the process, internal and external stakeholders will be given the opportunity to provide input March through February. In February, the draft strategic plan will be presented to school and district employees for their input. A community forum will be scheduled April 5, 2016 for input from parents and community members. Once feedback is received, the action teams will meet to revise the draft plan based on the feedback provided. It should be noted that feedback is welcomed at any time. Feel free to send feedback to firstname.lastname@example.org. There is also a link on the district website, http://www.colletonsd.org/, where you can view information about the strategic planning process.
Following the revision, the school board will then be given a copy of the plan to review and give input prior to voting on the final Strategic Plan for the district. This must be done in order for the district to submit the plan to the SC State Department of Education no later than April 29, 2016.
